How does AirMagnet WiFi Analyzer monitor the 802.11d protocol?
AP's implementing 802.11d will broadcast the country ISO code in certain wireless frames to help tune devices to meet the channel (frequency) and power requirements of the country the device is being implemented in. The client in turn, will adjust its frequency, power levels, etc. AirMagnet WiFi Analyzer decodes 802.11d traffic and displays specific 802.11d information for every device.

How does AirMagnet WiFi Analyzer monitor the 802.11h protocol?
802.11h is used to resolve interference issues due to use of 802.11a devices in locations with radars and medical devices due to restrictions placed by a few regulatory bodies. 802.11h introduces two concepts:

  • Dynamic frequency selection (DFS) to detect devices operating in a certain channel and automatically switch the wireless network to another channel.
  • Transmit power control (TPC) to reduce the RF output power of each wireless device to a level that minimizes interference, but still maintains satisfactory network performance.

AirMagnet WiFi Analyzer decodes 802.11h traffic and displays specific 802.11h information for every device.
